Kids Muay Thai Geelong & BJJ Classes at Carbon Gym Norlane

Kids Muay Thai Geelong classes (plus BJJ) are running now at Carbon Gym in Norlane. The program builds fitness, confidence, and respect for children aged 5 and up.

What Is Kids Muay Thai Geelong at Carbon Gym?

Carbon Gym runs a dedicated children’s martial arts program at our Norlane gym in Geelong, covering both Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ). The program suits complete beginners through to kids with a few terms of experience.

What’s Included

Sessions cover pad work, footwork, and grappling fundamentals in a structured setting. Coaches prioritise discipline, coordination, and self-defence over contact sparring, especially with beginners.

Why Muay Thai and BJJ for Children?

Both sports build fitness fast, and they teach skills that carry into everyday life.

Muay Thai, sometimes called the “Art of Eight Limbs,” uses strikes from fists, elbows, knees, and shins. It builds strength, coordination, and confidence in young athletes.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a grappling art built on technique and leverage. It gives smaller children the tools to defend themselves against bigger opponents, and it teaches problem-solving and resilience along the way.

Why Train at Carbon Gym in Norlane?

Carbon isn’t a franchise. Founder Johnny Bourke still trains alongside the coaches most weeks, and several of them compete themselves. Every session is built to help your child grow, on and off the mat.

Join our program in Norlane and give your Geelong-based child a head start on confidence, fitness, and discipline.

Why Parents Choose Carbon Gym

We build respect and discipline first, striking second. Coaches are vetted, trauma-informed, and good with nervous first-timers. Sessions run after school and on weekends, so it’s easy to fit around school and other sport.

Kids Muay Thai Geelong and BJJ Frequently Asked Questions

What ages are the sessions for?

They run for ages 5 and up at our Norlane location in Geelong. We split beginner and intermediate groups by age and experience. Teen sessions for 13 to 17 year olds run at different times, so ask reception for the current timetable.

Does my child need experience before their first session?

None. Most children start as complete beginners each term. Coaches structure the first four weeks around fundamentals, games, and getting comfortable with the movements. Beginner sessions don’t include sparring.

How much does it cost?

Membership starts at about $25 a week and includes unlimited access across Muay Thai, BJJ, and boxing. Family discounts apply for siblings, and the first session is free.

Is martial arts safe for children?

Yes, when taught properly. Sessions use age-appropriate techniques, no-contact sparring for beginners, and coaches with Working With Children checks. Kids come away sharper on their feet, calmer under pressure, and genuinely able to defend themselves if they ever need to.

What should my child wear to their first session?

Comfortable workout clothes: shorts or tracksuit pants, a t-shirt, and bare feet for the mats. Bring a water bottle. BJJ eventually needs a gi, but not for the first few trial sessions.
