BJJ Competition Recap – Carbon Gym Geelong’s Medal Wins Across Victoria

Medals, Submissions & First-Time Fighters – Huge Month for BJJ at Carbon Gym Geelong

Over the past couple of weeks, our BJJ crew at Carbon Gym Geelong has been on the move – competing across Victoria, stepping onto the mats, and bringing home medals. From seasoned coaches to brave first-timers, the team showed up with grit, heart, and top-tier technique.

🥇 River Takes Gold at Savage Grappling

First up, River competed at Savage Grappling in the 67kg white belt division. Over four matches on the day, he showcased relentless pressure and clean submission work.

  • 3 wins via submission (2 guillotines, 1 rear naked choke)
  • Clinched the gold medal with a dominant points victory using heavy top pressure

River’s performance earned Carbon Gym its first gold medal of the comp season – a massive achievement! River also scored a second stripe from Coach Jarryd!

👊 Juniors Step Up at Grapplers Haven

At the Grapplers Haven Australian Championships, a trio of our junior BJJ athletes made their competition debuts — Jackson, Cleo, and Lucas.

  • Jackson showed real courage and walked away keen to compete again
  • Cleo fought tough and scored a couple of handy draws
  • Lucas smashed it and brought home a bronze medal for the junior squad

It was a proud moment for the entire Carbon family watching our young guns step up and represent.

💪 Senior Division Delivers Big

In the same event, the seniors brought some serious fire:

  • Coach Shawn, cutting 5kg to make under 80kg and debuting at Blue Belt, powered through to win silver, including a slick rear naked choke finish.
  • Reece entered his first ever comp at 90kg and dominated with three submissions (2 head-arm chokes, 1 rear naked choke), earning our second gold medal of the month.

  • Backing each other in
  • Putting our skills to the test
  • Building confidence through coaching
  • Creating a gym culture where everyone – from first-time juniors to coaches – lifts each other up
