What Is A Rower & How To Use It
A Rower is a machine that mimics the movement done when rowing in a boat. The motion that is used is pretty simple and self explanatory.
When you start from the bottom of a stroke, you should extend your legs, hinge the core and then use the arm to row the handle towards the chest and then in reverse to go back to the starting position.
What are the Benefits of a Rower?
- It can improve your aerobic fitness. Rowing for even just 15 minutes is a high aerobic workout, and using the rower regularly can increase and improve on stamina and cardiovascular health. Great option for building on your V02 Max as well as the heart and lungs.
- Full body workout. When using a Rower you’re not just limited to the use of one muscle group, but in fact you can use up to 86% of the muscles in your body! Arms, Core & Legs all play a part in the stroke motion. You can also improve on lower body conditioning as the legs play a big part in the motion used.
- Lower risk of injury. You have a lower injury risk when using a Rower, as it’s a low impact motion, and because of this you can work at a much higher intensity without the added wear, tear, and strain on your joints and a much safer option if rehabbing an injury. Plus you can vary the workout intensity with resistance, pace and the distance moved.
- It’s a great fat burning exercise. Not only is a Rower good for full body workouts at low impact, but compared to the use of an Elliptical, you can expect to burn more calories. Compared to the other machines such as treadmill or elliptical, it can give you a mean workout with added bonus of burning some good calories.
Given the benefits of the Rowing machine, it’s a great addition to your workout, either in combination with other exercises or a stand alone workout. Be sure to give it a try in your next workout.
