Biography
Heidi Harris is an American goalkeeper now playing for Geelong Galaxy United FC in Geelong. She grew up in Suwanee, Georgia, just north of Atlanta, and moved to Australia after four college seasons that ended with a conference Player of the Year award, back-to-back All-Region selections, and a trip to the NCAA Division II national semifinals. It’s the kind of resume most college goalkeepers only dream about, and it’s a big part of why Geelong Galaxy went looking for her in the first place.
At Lambert High School she earned All-County, All-Region and All-State recognition in Forsyth County’s 7A competition, helped the team win a regional title and finish as state runner-up, and picked up Athlete of the Week and Player of the Match honours along the way. That kind of production is what put her on the radar of college programs a state away. She graduated in 2022 and headed to Florida Southern College.
College Career
Her freshman year with the Florida Southern Moccasins was brief: four appearances, one start, one goal conceded. Her first college clean sheet came in a 7-0 win over Edward Waters, where she made three saves, and she landed on the Sunshine State Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll.
She transferred to Columbus State University and played for the Cougars from 2023 to 2025. She spent her first year in a reserve role, then took over as starting goalkeeper in 2024. That season she started all 25 matches and finished with a 22-1-2 record, making 50 saves at an .847 save percentage while conceding just nine goals across more than 2,000 minutes for a 0.40 goals-against average. It earned her the Peach Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Year award, Peach Belt Conference Tournament Most Valuable Player honours, and a spot on the All-Peach Belt Conference First Team.
Columbus State reached the NCAA Division II national semifinals that year and finished the season ranked No. 2 in the country, with Heidi and the Cougars’ defence combining for 17 shutouts. She also picked up United Soccer Coaches First-Team All-Southeast Region and D2CCA Second-Team All-Southeast Region honours.
She held onto the starting job through her senior season in 2025. Across 21 starts and more than 1,760 minutes on the field, she made 57 saves and kept eight clean sheets. Another Peach Belt Conference Goalkeeper of the Week award followed, along with a spot on the United Soccer Coaches All-Southeast Region Third Team, closing out a college career with All-Region honours in back-to-back seasons.
Scholar All-American
Heidi’s academic record earned her national recognition too. She was named a United Soccer Coaches Second-Team Scholar All-American and First-Team Scholar All-South Region, plus a spot on the Peach Belt Conference Team of Academic Distinction and a Presidential Honor Roll Gold Scholar honour. Trophies are one thing. Doing that while carrying a full course load is another.
Heidi Harris Joins Geelong Galaxy United
After college, Heidi moved to Australia and joined Geelong Galaxy United FC, whose senior and reserve sides compete in the Victorian Premier League Women, Victoria’s top women’s soccer competition. She brings four years of NCAA Division II experience and a title-winning mentality to the Galaxy goal. For Carbon Gym members who follow local women’s soccer, that’s a name worth knowing. Heidi Harris now trains at Carbon Gym in Geelong as she prepares for the VPL Women season, and Geelong fans will get their first look at her between the posts.
