Johnny’s Weight Loss Secret – Main Event Fitness Geelong
In 2009 I was overweight, over worked, and over my appearance.
After years of stagnant living it was safe to say I didn’t like moving much, so whenever I tried to lose weight, it seemed hopeless. Your regular, generic style gym, wasn’t for me (still isn’t), team sports weren’t either, walking was too boring, and I was too big to run. It wasn’t until I found something I loved, that my weight loss journey started to take off.
That’s when, in mid 2009, I discovered Muay Thai, and I loved it! For me battling obesity by taking up Muay Thai was a life-changing decision. I lost almost 40 kilograms in my first year! So what was my secret?….Passion! I was passionate about Muay Thai. I loved Muay Thai, so I completely forgot about the weight loss. Training was just a place I could go enjoy myself and hang out with friends. The weight loss just become a side effect of doing something I love.
So if you want my advice, don’t get stuck in the loop of resistance training, boot camp, or generic cardio. Find something you are passionate about. Find something that makes working out a reward, and not a chore. Maybe it is running, resistance training, or bootcamp. But don’t do it because that’s what everyone else does. Find something you love, and naturally, you will do anything you possibly can to improve at it.
My last piece of advice – be honest with yourself and cut the excuses! You are too busy? Guess what?! I bet you know someone with a family, that works more hours than you. Can’t afford it? I bet you know someone who has less money than you, that trains more often! The human mind can be extremely fragile, but sometimes we need to break through our ego, to find the real character.
Now I’m not saying I didn’t try and take short cuts, trust me, I tried them all, but nothing really worked except HARD WORK!
