Name: Johnny Brouke

Role: I am the owner and founder of Elite Training Centre, Paradise Gym, and of course Carbon Gym. I am also the owner of a cold-pressed juice company called Juice Syndicate.

What type of training do you enjoy:

I enjoy Muay Thai and kickboxing training the most, Muay Thai and kickboxing have been a significant part of my fitness journey as they completely transformed my life. When I first started training in Muay Thai, I was battling obesity, and I needed to lose weight and get in shape. Muay Thai training not only helped me achieve my fitness goals, but it also taught me discipline, perseverance, and mental toughness. I fell in love with the sport and the challenges that it brought, and it has been a significant part of my life ever since.

What are your fitness-based goals:

My fitness-based goals are to have a body so chiselled, even Michelangelo would be jealous! But in all seriousness, I just want to stay healthy, strong, and fit.

Favourite food: 

Pizza and Mexican, I couldn’t just pick one.

Why did you get into the Fitness industry: 

I got into the Fitness industry because I was extremely overweight and wanted to lose enough weight to go skydiving. I started training Muay Thai with my housemates, became obsessed, and lost 40kg in my first 12 months. After that, I couldn’t stand sitting at a desk and working my job in I.T any longer. So, I quit and started my Diploma in Fitness full-time. Muay Thai and fitness had such a significant impact on my life that I wanted to share my passion for the sport and the benefits of a healthy lifestyle with others.

Tell us something about yourself: 

I work hard and I play hard. I’m a workaholic and going to bed is actually the worst part of my day. To unwind, I love researching and booking my next travel destination. Traveling is my other passion.

What are your fitness-based goals: 

currently injured and cant train MMA, so I’m in here pumping iron everyday instead trying to get JACKED!!

Favourite food:

 Parfaits! Have you ever met a person, you say, “Let’s get some parfait,” they say, “Hell no, I don’t like no parfait.”? Parfaits are delicious! Parfait’s may be the most delicious thing on the whole damn planet!

Why did you get into the Fitness industry:

 I was a very fat kid. My nickname in grade 6 was fat Albert bahaha. I took that on the chin and completely transformed the way I approach life. From that point onward health and fitness became not only a passion but an obsession. I luckily had some great influential figures in my life who helped me through the hard times. Now it’s my time to pay it forward and help influence as many people as I can to become the best version of themselves, physically and mentally!

Tell us something about yourself: 

I grew up in Kaniva, a small farming town in western Victoria. We used to travel up to 2.5 hours just to get to football and cricket on Saturdays. Our town didn’t have a gym, so in metal work class my mates and I built a bench press and squat rack. One day mum got home saw that we turned her garage into a gym and the rest was history.

Role:

As the manager of Carbon Gym and Elite Training Centre, i take on multiple responsibilities to ensure the smooth running of both facilities. I oversee the day-to-day operations, manages staff, coordinates schedules, and works closely with trainers and instructors. My focus is on creating an inclusive, motivating environment that encourages members to achieve their fitness goals.

What type of training do you enjoy:

I love Pilates! 

What are your fitness-based goals:

My fitness goals are to feel strong, confident, and empowered. I believe that maintaining a regular exercise routine, along with practicing mindfulness and adopting a healthy lifestyle, contributes to overall well-being and happiness.

Favourite food:

Everything that involves Seafood and pasta! 

Why did you get into the Fitness industry:

I initially entered the fitness industry to challenge myself through competition. After two years of competing, I won my last competition and realized my passion for fitness extended beyond the competitive arena. This experience inspired me to pursue a career in the fitness industry, where I can motivate others to achieve their goals and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Tell us something about yourself:

Outside of managing gyms, I have a keen interest in the fight industry and works as a ring girl for various promotions in Melbourne and Geelong. This role allows me to be closely involved in the exciting world of combat sports. Additionally, I am a talent manager and stylist for a modelling agency called ‘Fundamental Models.’ This position enables me to apply my creative skills and eye for detail while supporting the professional development of aspiring models.

To be the happiest version within myself. My mental health is a big battle so pushing myself in the gym helps combat the hard stuff in my head

Why did you get into the Fitness industry:

To be honest I randomly fell into it recently as I took time away from my career earlier this after my dad had a stroke late last year and my perspective & outlook on life really changed. I started training at ETC in 2018 and not being a fitness person at really any point in my life I developed a love for it. I’ve been in sales & customer faced roles my whole life so I was able to adapt my skills into the industry when I helped out at the gym for “just one day” and here we are. 

Tell us something about yourself:

 I’m a very energetic, talk too much kind of person hence why I love dealing with people. I love the beach when it’s not cold and I have two old basset hounds that still think they’re puppies. Tequila is my sneaky drink of choice. That’s a very bunch of random things but hey that’s me.

I strongly believe in the transformative power of regular exercise, healthy lifestyle habits, along with a positive mindset that leads to an improvement in the overall quality of life. Why I Got into the Fitness Industry:

After going through my own personal battles on a number of different levels I decided to become a strength and fitness coach and develop a mission to empower men and women to overcome their own personal challenges, just as I have. Having battled through my own personal struggles with mental health issues, obesity (lost over 55kg), and even facing moments of despair that led to suicidal thoughts I understand the journey to self-improvement on a deeper level than most coaches you will come across. Through my own personal transformations, I’ve learned through the power of fitness, positive mindfulness and wellness the benefits it all brings to healing not only the body and most importantly the mind.

What is your coaching style?:

My approach as a coach is rooted in empathy and unwavering motivation and support. I am here to guide you through your own obstacles, helping you build physical strength, mental resilience, and a positive self-image. Tell us something about yourself:

I am an Australian Army veteran and served in the regular Army for 8 years as a logistics specialist. I was posted to various units around the country and hold some amazing memories and friendships from my time serving. I truly believe more of our younger people in society need to experience things like military service even if it’s Army Reserves.

I played high level competitive tennis in Geelong and Victoria from the age of 9 to 18 until I left school and then joined the Army.

I’ve also successfully completed some other amazing individual achievements which have been extremely rewarding each in their own way.

Personal Trainer and Cleaner (would love to retire from this role if everyone could please put their weights back once they are done with them).

What type of training do you enjoy:
Weight training, it’s very unlikely you will ever see me upstairs on the cardio equipment.

What are your fitness-based goals:
I lost 17kg a couple of years ago but have hit a bit of a wall with my training so I really want to get back at it and lose these last few kgs I want to get rid of and just feel fitter and healthier in myself (Also wouldn’t mind being able to lift a crazy amount of weight)

Favourite food:
If I could, I would eat Pasta, Mexican or a Medium rare steak with garlic butter everyday for the rest of my life. (Also have a slight, some would say unhealthy addiction to Pepsi max and Blue V’s)

Why did you get into the Fitness industry:
I could never understand people who LOVED the gym and spent all of their time there, that is until I finally found what works for me in the gym and what made me excited to go every single day. Not only did I lose 17kg but my mental health, lifestyle and self-confidence improved so drastically! I started bringing my friends along to the gym, helping them train and showing them what I had learnt and eventually I decided to get qualified and well, here we are.

Tell us something about yourself:
I am originally from England (moved here with my family when I was 10). Whilst I would never want to live anywhere else and am so lucky to be living where I am, I do LOVE to travel the world and explore new places. I have been to quite a few countries so far in my life, but I can’t wait to see so much more of the world. I also love to meet new people and make new friends so make sure you come and say hi and have a chat when you see me in the gym next!

How long have you been taking Pilates classes?
I have been teaching at Upstate for about three months now, but before that, I had my pilates qualification for about a year, so I have been taking lessons at netball clubs and a few schools before joining Carbon Gym on a Monday afternoon 
 
What’s your favourite thing about Pilates?
My favourite thing about Pilates is that it is a refreshing workout that improves my core strength and flexibility in a full-body activity; adding Pilates into my weekly routine creates variety in my fitness and adds benefits such as strength and balance.
 
Why did you get into the fitness industry?
I grew my love for fitness and Pilates during COVID-19, so I decided to do my qualification in Pilates to share my passion with others and allow them to find a love for Pilates.  
 
What are some of your fitness-based goals?
One of my fitness goals is to become stronger in the gym. Also, an extensive fitness goal of mine is running. I enjoy running and recently completed the City to Surf in Sydney, so my next big fitness goal is achieving a half marathon.  
 
Tell us something about yourself:
My name is Zara, and I am 23 years old. I am in the final year of my bachelor of Education; I love health and fitness and find a moment to add daily movement. I love playing netball and do that throughout the winter months. I also love travelling and have travelled to many places over the last few years.
